Description
Medium-Sized Rectangular Wells
Per US IRC standards, every basement living space is required to have a fire emergency exit. However, there are cases when a window well is needed only for ventilation or to protect a basement window. Then, a non-egress window well is a good match.Β
Not only does the 24β window well provide suitable ventilation and protection from debris and cave-ins, but they also conserve your outdoor space. All, thanks to their smaller projection. These wells are also known as casement window wells.
If you need a non-egress well with a smaller projection (20 inches or less) please, refer to our elongated wells.
Our wells are made from corrugated steel that can withstand pressure from water and soil when properly attached to the foundation wall. When choosing one of our rectangular window wells, you can rest assured that they will resist corrosion for many, many years.

Medium-Sized Rectangular Wells vs. Egress Wells
A lot of our customers are confused by the 24-inch window wells. On the one hand, they seem big enough to let a person escape. But, on the other hand, if you need them for ventilation-only – why not choose a well with a smaller projection?
It can be confusing! But our experts are always available for a FREE consultation. The basic rule is that older homes might not have IRC building code-compliant window wells. And these 24 inches (or even 30 inches) rectangular wells are common there.
As a homeowner, it is your responsibility to ensure that each living space in your basement has at least one egress-sized (with a 9 square foot opening) window well. However, if you need to replace a rusted window well that is not used as a fire exit, these square window wells are a great choice!
