Installing a liner takes about five steps and only basic tools. Watch the video above, or follow along here.
- Prepare: Clear debris from the well and remove a few extra inches of rock and dirt so the liner’s bottom edge sits below the rocks. Clean the metal or concrete where the fasteners will go.
- Measure: Measure in several spots, top to bottom and side to side. Be generous on curves, since you can trim more but cannot add it back.
- Cut: With the scene laid flat, mark your measurements, then cut just inside the lines with scissors. Trim more as needed for a clean fit.
- Attach: Place the hook-and-loop fasteners around the well, keeping them off wet or rusted spots. Peel the backing, then roll out the liner and press it onto the fasteners.
- Finish: Replace the rock at the base to cover the bottom edge, then add any rocks, plants, or lighting you like. We recommend a cover to help your liner last.
Yes. Liners attach with hook-and-loop fasteners, so you can take one down and put up a different scene if your taste changes. Contact us if you would like another scene for the same well.
The vinyl wipes clean with mild dish soap and water. Because the material is weather and UV-resistant, it needs little upkeep, and a window well cover or grate over the top helps keep leaves and debris off the scene.
No. A liner lines the walls of the well, not the window itself, so natural light and privacy stay the same, and your existing window still opens normally for egress. It does not change the well’s ability to meet local egress safety codes because nothing about how the window works changes.
Yes. Many homeowners pair a decorative liner with a clear polycarbonate cover. The cover keeps rain, leaves, and debris out of the well, while the liner stays fully visible. The UV protection in the clear cover also helps to protect the cover from fading. One handles protection, the other handles the look.
